Greece won the title “Europe’s Leading Destination 2021” at the 28th edition of the World Travel Awards (WTA) Europe.
As announced on Friday, the WTA 2021 winners include many Greek hotels and resorts, as well as travel agencies, car rental companies and destinations.
The WTAs recognise, reward and celebrate excellence in all areas of the travel industry. The awards are known throughout the industry as the “Oscars of the travel industry” and votes are cast by travel professionals and high-end tourism consumers.
“Our winners represent the best of Europe’s travel and tourism sector and my congratulations to each of them. They all play a key role in leading the recovery of travel and tourism businesses,” said World Travel Awards founder Graham Cooke.
Commenting on Greece’s win, Greek Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias said: “Greece made the best use of pandemic management, medical and travel protocols. It proved to the world that it is the most beautiful but also the safest destination. This international award for 2021 confirms that we are now championing quality and travel experience in tourism. Greece will have tourism this year and in November, tourism professionals should prepare for a strong 2022”.
